Week 7 #2 MBA 6101 - The Intersection of social media and AI: A Double-Edged Sword

Social media is a big part of our lives, and it uses something called artificial intelligence (AI) to make things better. AI helps social media platforms show us stuff we like and make our experience more personal. But there are some things we need to think about too. In this blog, we'll talk about how AI and social media work together, the good things it does, and the problems it can cause. 

1. Making Things Personal but Being Careful: AI uses special rules to show us things on social media that we'll like and be interested in. It tries to make it feel like it knows us well. But sometimes, it can make mistakes. It might show us only one side of things and not show us different ideas. This can make everyone think the same or spread incorrect information. To fix this, social media websites need to be honest about how things work and make sure they're fair. They should also show us different ideas and correct information, so we get a better understanding of things.

2. Protecting Our Information and Privacy: AI needs our information to work well on social media. It keeps track of what we do, what we like, and who we talk to. This can make things more personal, but it also means our privacy might be at risk. Sometimes, bad people can take our information or use it in ways we don't like. To keep us safe, social media websites should do everything they can to protect our information. They should also ask for our permission to use our information and be clear about how they handle it. It's important for us to know what's happening with our information and have control over it.

Social media and AI work together to make our experience better, but there are also some problems. Social media websites need to use AI fairly and protect our privacy. We need to understand how AI and social media work and speak up for using AI responsibly. This way, we can make social media a better place for everyone.
